You will diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases related to the human eye. You will examine eyes and visual systems, diagnose problems or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment. You may also prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions.
You will assist biological and medical scientists in laboratories. You will set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, monitor experiments, make observations, and calculate and record results. You may analyze organic substances, such as blood, food, and drugs.
You will research the distribution, circulation, and physical properties of underground and surface water. You will also study the form and intensity of precipitation, its rate of infiltration into the soil, movement through the earth, and its return to the ocean and atmosphere.
You will teach courses in the physical sciences other than chemistry and physics.
You will apply the knowledge of engineering, biology, and biomechanical principles to the design, development, and evaluation of biological and health systems and products, such as artificial organs, prostheses, instrumentation, medical information systems, and health management and care delivery systems.
You will investigate the growth, structure, development,a nd other characteristics of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, algae, or fungi. This includes medical microbiologists who study the relationship between organisms and disease or the effects of antibiotics on microorganisms.
You will review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. You may conduct inspections and enfore adhereence to laws and regulation governing the health and safety of individuals.
You will set up, operate, or tend machines to mix or blend materials, such as chemicals, tobacco, liquids, color pigments or explosive ingredients.
You will perform work involved in developing and processing photographic images from film or digital media. You may perform precision tasks such as editing photographic negatives and prints.
You will set up, operate, or tend continuous flow or vat-type equipment; filter presses; shaker screens; cetrifuges; condenser tubes; precipitating, fermenting, or evaportating tanks; scrubbing towers; or batch stills. These machines extract, sort, or separate liquids, gases, or solids from other materials to recover a refined product.
